#391 - Count The Squares Puzzle

Can you find out the number of squares in the given picture?

Count The Squares Puzzle

There are 12 squares in the picture.

The trick to find it would be drawing diagonals. We know that the sides of a square are parallel and thus, the diagonals should be parallel as well. Let us begin with the outer most rectangle. See the picture. The yellow lines are diagonals drawn for reference.

Now see the next image. You can make out a total of 8 squares - 3 blue, 3 green and 2 red. There are 4 other rectangles in the figure but they cant be square as their diagonal is not parallel with the yellow lines we drew for reference.

Thus, total squares = 4 + 8 = 12.

#392 - Missing Number Puzzle

Find the missing number in the given picture puzzle.

Missing Number Puzzle

Both 0 and 16 will suffice the missing number.

This is because, there is no specific pattern in this picture. The only thing that you will notice is that the numbers are continuous and jumbled up.
Thus the number can be 0 or 16.

#396 - How Many Triangles Are There

Can you count the number of triangles in the given figure? PS: Think hard as it is not easy as it seems.

How Many Triangles Are There

There are a total of 47 triangles.

Let us divide the triangles in this figure in three equal triangles (triangles formed by connecting outer side to the center of the circle) and then count the number in each category by taking two or more together.

At first, let us count the triangles that are in one part. There are 4 non-overlapping and 3 overlapping triangles. This means that the total triangles are 7 * 3 = 21.

Next, we pick up the triangles by taking two parts together. There are 8 such triangles. 8 * 3 = 24.

Lastly, the triangles by taking all 3 parts together, we find there are only 2 triangles.

21 + 24 + 2 = 47.

#397 - Square Figure Puzzle

Look at the picture and find out which square is not linked with any of the other squares.

Square Figure Puzzle

Square 17, 19 and 23 are not linked with other squares.

#398 - How Many Triangles Puzzle

How many triangles can you count in the figure given ?

How Many Triangles Puzzle

38

Let us begin by counting the smallest triangles assuming that they are 1 unit in side. You can find 12 triangles facing upwards (3 + 4 + 3 + 2) and 12 triangles facing downwards.

Now move to the bigger triangle with say side of 2 units. You can find 6 upward facing triangles (3 + 2 + 1) and 6 downward facing triangles.

Next are the biggest triangles with side 3 units (assumingly). You can find 1 upward facing triangle and 1 downward facing triangle.

12 + 12 + 6 + 6 + 1 + 1 = 38
