The question that follows came in the UPSC final exam that was held in December 2013. Only one examinee i.e. Gaurav Agarwal was able to solve it. Can you solve it?

You have to fill numbers in place of question marks. The numbers that you can use are 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15. You can repeat the numbers if you like.
The answer is
(15 - 9) + (13 - 7) + (7 - 1) + (9 - 1) + (13 - 9)
If you calculate it, you will get
6 + 6 + 6 + 8 + 4 = 30
An equation has been laid down using a few matchsticks. However, as you can see, the equation is not correct. Can you correct the equation if you are allowed to add or remove 5 matchsticks?

This is because, every alternate number is in a sequence.
192, 222 and 252 have a gap of 30.
021, 324 and 627 have a gap of 303.
Given that
(78)^9 = 6
And (69)^4 = 11
Can you find out (89)^2 = ?
7 + 8 = 15 and 15 - 9 = 6
6 + 9 = 15 and 15 - 4 = 11
Thus, (89)^2:
8 + 9 = 17 and 17 - 2 = 15
Look at the attached picture and find out missing number on the grid.
The missing number is 60.

=> 1*2 + 5*2 = 12

The last missing throw will have 3 as the result. This is because, with each pair of the throws you can find that the total sum is increasing by three and then decreasing by one. Therefore the missing throw be 3.
The below given figure comprises of a pattern through which you can determine the missing letter. Can you push your mind to find the pattern and add the missing letter?
The missing letter is Q.
If you add the three numbers on each square, the value corresponds to the equivalent alphabet in the center. For example 6 + 4 + 4 = 14 and N is the 14th letter. Similarly 14 + 2 + 1 = 17 or the letter Q.
